We have been blessed beyond belief in our lives thus far! We are so lucky to have three healthy and happy little boys at home with us! Phoenix our oldest son made the long journey home in 2009 at the age of 6 months. Our adoption experience with Phoenix was nothing short of remarkable! We both were lucky enough to have the opportunity to travel to Ethiopia to bring Phoenix home and although we knew the staggering statistics about orphans and the poverty in Africa nothing could begin to prepare us for the emotional, eye opening, and life changing experience we would have while there.
Our hearts were forever changed the day we stepped foot in Addis! Knowing statistics is far different than putting names, stories, and faces to the statistics. We knew in our hearts adoption was something we were lead to do-never would be imagine on what scale.
After returning home from Ethiopia we were shocked to find out we were pregnant……….with TWINS! 7 months later we welcomed Boston and Parker into the world at 32 weeks gestation.
Although life was crazy and still is we knew we would always adopt again….just thought it would be when the boys were older. God and destiny has other intentions!
Late January 2010 we felt lead to Africa once again-this time the DRC. After speaking with OWAS they indicated that they had a ‘hard to place’ sibling group. This sibling group was considered ‘hard to place’ simply due to their age 4 and 2! Still babies, but considered almost to old to adopt?!?! They had indicated that they had been in the orphanage for over 16 months at that time. Not wanting to fall in love with photos we reviewed what little information we had on the girls, the process, the cost, etc. and decided to move forward with the adoption.
Thinking, praying, talking about it we were reminded of a few quotes:
“Do you want to do something beautiful for God? There is a person who needs you. This is your chance.”
“The biggest disease today is not leprosy or tuberculosis, but rather the feeling of being unwanted,” Mother Teresa of Calcutta
Looking in their eyes-so lonely and sad how in the world could we say no?!?!
So the process began and here we are.....close to the end - preparing to travel in 2-3 months!
Travel expenses are estimated to be $6,000 for the trip! A Hefty amount! We have confidence though and are humbled to ask for others to embrace this process in their hearts and help bring the girls home! Our goal is to raise $2,000 – 1/3 of the travel cost.
If each person donated $10 (the average cost of dinner- a single movie ticket) we could reach this goal with just 200 people pledging! There are several people that have more than 200 friends on facebook alone.
So our plea to you – please spread the word – please consider donating! Please post our link any and everywhere you can!!! Facebook, Twitter, Blog, E-mail whatever you can do please consider doing!
We have set our goal of $2,000 starting today and ending February 14th 2012-Pipers 3rd birthday!
